Alvaret at Work for Trafikverket
After months of intensive work, it is always a special moment to see a project at its final destination.
Royal Van der Leun is excited to announce its collaboration in building a diesel-electric hopper dredger with Royal IHC! For over half a century, Royal Van der Leun and Royal IHC have partnered in the construction of hopper dredgers, delivering excellence and creating the maritime future.
Royal Van der Leun will deliver the machinery, nautical systems, switchboards, cabling, and complete system integration. This 320-foot (97.54 meters) vessel, with a hopper capacity of 6,000 cubic yards (4,587 cubic meters), will be built at Eastern Shipbuilding Group in Panama City, Florida, USA, for the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). It will feature a diesel-electric propulsion system that meets the highest environmental and efficiency standards (EPA Tier 4 and IMO Tier 3). Royal Van der Leun will also provide on-site supervision during installation and support the final commissioning.
This advanced hopper vessel will join the USACE’s Ready Reserve Fleet, playing a crucial role in ensuring safe, reliable, and sustainable waterborne transportation. The ship is equipped with the latest innovations, including highly automated systems like Integrated Forward-Looking Sonar, Dynamic Positioning, and Tracking, greatly enhancing dredging efficiency.
Equipped with the ECO Package, this innovative dredging vessel can operate up to 15% more efficiently, reducing both fuel consumption and environmental impact. The integration of Plumigator® technology further minimizes air release during dredging, contributing to a lower environmental footprint.
Many thanks to Royal IHC for their long-standing trust and confidence in our team. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership and bringing this project to life.
