Tonight is the night: “Pakjesavond”

It’s December 5th, which means we celebrate Sinterklaas his birthday in the Netherlands.

“Pakjesavond” is an evening filled with joy, gifts, and treats like "pepernoten" and "kruidnoten"(traditional Dutch treats enjoyed during Sinterklaas celebrations). It’s a wonderful moment to come together and enjoy this special tradition, "gewoon gezellig"!

Last Saturday, Sinterklaas visited the children of Royal Van der Leun employees at Theater Peeriscoop in Gorinchem. In the theater, the children were seated in the front rows, cheerfully participating in the activities led by the Pieten on stage. The highlight of the day was, of course, the arrival of Sinterklaas himself! He took his place on stage with his big book and read personal notes about the children. Some even had the chance to showcase their talents, such as singing, dancing, or performing impressive gymnastics.

After plenty of singing and dancing with the Pieten, they handed out gifts. The children eagerly unwrapped their presents together, and the festivities ended with delicious hot chocolate. Tonight, the celebrations continue in homes all across the country. Enjoy this evening!
