After an incredible 55 years at Royal Van der Leun, Cor Usmany recently said an official farewell to his colleagues.
The occasion was celebrated with a festive evening in a beautifully decorated tent, complete with delicious Moluccan food from the local toko and a warm, joyful atmosphere. Cor’s family was also there to share in this special moment.
Cor applied for a job on April 30, 1971, and started his first working day just a few days later, on May 3, 1971, at the age of 22, as a sheet metal worker.
“I still really enjoy working at Van der Leun, and as long as that’s the case, I don’t want to stop,” Cor said when he was 72.
After an impressive career, it’s now time for a new chapter. “Why did I stay so long? Because I enjoy my work and I’m happy here. That’s why I kept going even after retirement, because I didn’t want to miss the work, the people, and the atmosphere. But now it’s time to enjoy life outside of work: my family, my children, grandchildren, and even a great-grandchild. That’s the most beautiful kind of retirement you can have.”
At the end of the evening, Cor proudly gave his family a tour of the metal workshop, the “ijzerwerkerij,” the place where he worked with such dedication and craftsmanship all those years as a welder and sheet metal worker.
Cor already received a travel voucher for his 50th anniversary, and now once again, so he can enjoy a well-deserved vacation.
Royal Van der Leun is deeply grateful to Cor for his tireless commitment, loyalty, craftsmanship, and positive energy. He has left a lasting impression on our company and on everyone who had the pleasure of working with him.
Cor, thank you for 55 incredible years! Enjoy life beyond the workshop. You’ve more than earned it!
