There is plenty of talent in our region. Talent needs space to grow. The Gorinchem based Fortes Lyceum (high school) has a great understanding of this principle.

To provide their talents tailored opportunities, they offer Talent Streams. The ‘Technasium’ Talent Stream program gives tech-savvy high school students an extra challenge.

Royal Van der Leun is opening its doors to Joël, Myrthe, Onno, Troy, Matthias, teacher Mathijs Verel and instructor Maurice Willems. Together, the four students form Scuderia Fortes, a team building an electric go-kart over the course of a year and participating in various races. How cool is that?!

As part of their journey to build the best electric go-kart, they visit Royal Van der Leun to install the electrical components of the kart. Most of the components, such as the battery, the converter, the motor and the throttle are already present. All that is needed are the correct cables and connections. Colleagues Hans van de Velde and Nico den Breejen are guiding the students through the world of electrical engineering. “I wish I had this kind of experience during my high school time”, says Hans.

In March, the team will participate in their first race off the Green Challenge super kart competition. We eagerly look forward to it and wish the Scuderia Fortes racing team a lot of learning and success!
