Royal Van der Leun supplied the complete electrical installation for the innovative Damen Combi Freighter 3850, built for Rederij Bernd Sibum. Designed for efficient and sustainable cargo transport, this next-generation hybrid vessel combines wind-assisted propulsion with an advanced hybrid power system to significantly reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.
A key feature of the vessel is its ability to operate fully electrically on battery power, making it possible to sail emission-free during specific operations. This is enabled by the seamless integration of the Battery Energy Storage System (ESS), PTO/PTI system and Royal Van der Leun's own automation platform.
Our proprietary automation system intelligently controls the complete energy and propulsion system, continuously optimizing the interaction between the diesel engine, batteries, PTO/PTI system and onboard power distribution for maximum efficiency, reliability and operational flexibility.
Engineering, manufacturing and commissioning were carried out by our specialists in China, supported by our hybrid propulsion experts in the Netherlands. This project once again demonstrates the strength of our international collaboration and expertise in hybrid marine solutions.
