The Werkendam is the first Van Oord crane vessel that runs completely on LNG. In comparison with a diesel-powered ship, the Werkendam gives off 80% less particulate matter and 70% less nitrogen oxide. Moreover, it represents a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions.

The crane is fully electric and has a power recovery plant. Storing this energy means nothing is wasted and energy is used with maximum efficiency. Van der Leun was involved in Van Oord’s new concept from the earliest stages, and was pleased to see it through to completion.
